How it works for outdoor athletes:
When you are varying your workout intensity (in stop-go situations like climbing or on varied terrain like trail running, where you’re warming up on climbs and cooling down on descents), at first you sweat - which is absorbed by your clothing - then this sweat evaporates into the air. If your clothes are able to maintain thermal comfort between these two phases, you won’t feel the cold as much. This buffering ability is a main characteristic of wool - keeping the body at a stable temperature
